Ever since I learned that you can make money online and live a life of freedom, it has been my sole obsession.
I’ve always hated working at a normal job and I never understood how people did it for their entire life.
I can still vividly remember my first experience working a job when I was 16 years old.
After watching 2 of my friends suffer from devastating injuries while playing high school football, I decided that I no longer wanted to play.
Since I left football behind, I had tons of free time after school I needed something else to do.
One thing lead to another and before I knew it, I had a job at a pretzel shop located inside the mall.
I was forced to work with weird people who were depressed, deal with complaints from annoying customers, and clean greasy dish pans for several hours a day.
Doing those things made me more miserable than anything I had ever done in my life.
“Maybe Things Will Get Better”
That’s what I told myself during that first year at work.
My parents and all of the other adults I knew had no problem going to a job day after day, so maybe working was an acquired taste.
Maybe it gets easier as you get older…
Well, it didn’t.
Year after year and job after job, time slipped away and I seemed to be stuck in my own personal hell.
No matter how many different jobs I took, I couldn’t get used to the idea of wasting my days doing shit that I hated.
Discovering Online Business
One day, I was feeling depressed about where I was in life and lazily surfing the internet when everything changed.
I watched a Youtube video of a strength and conditioning coach whom I admired, but this time he wasn’t talking about how to get big and strong.
No, no, he was talking about making money doing something called a non-job.
Five years prior to where he was at that time (a rich and successful online content creator) he quit his job, had a second kid on the way, and had nothing but an idea of what he wanted his life to be like in the future.
He struggled and hustled for a long time before his business finally took off and he gained financial freedom.
Even though times were tough during that process, he said that he was much happier struggling on his own than he was wasting away at a job.
“A non-job… huh”, I thought to myself.
That sounded amazing.
I literally did not know that I could make money without punching a time clock and hating my existence.
My Grand Plan
After watching that video I was fired up and ready to begin my online entrepreneurial journey.
I bought myself a top tier laptop, registered a domain, and began learning how to build basic websites.
My first couple of weeks went amazing.
I learned how to install and customize themes on WordPress, set up an email list, and easily create new content.
I thought I had it all figured out… until I hit a wall.
After those first few weeks of working 10-12 hours a day, I no longer had the patience to concentrate on my business for more than an hour at a time.
I would start to fidget and become super uncomfortable around the 45-minute mark.
Once a full whole hour had gone by then forget it, I was DONE.
What the hell was wrong with me?
The Realities Of Online Business
This went on for months. I just couldn’t seem to get anything done.
No new content was being created which meant that no new traffic was visiting my site.
You see, if you decide to get into the blog business, you need to understand that your first few years need to be spent constantly creating new content.
People like constant content, Google likes websites that are constantly updated, and more content means that more doors are created for people to walk through and find your website.
Even though I knew all this, I couldn’t will myself to get any work done until I changed things up.
Going Out Into The World
Up to that point, I had been doing all of my work from home while either laying in bed, sitting on the couch, or sitting at the kitchen table.
The problem with that was there were way too many distractions at home and I just wasn’t comfortable.
Working from home wasn’t all that it was cracked up to be and I desperately needed a change of scenery.
So, I got up off my ass and went to public places with free wifi.
Coffee shops, restaurants, and even the public library all offered free internet, comfortable work areas, and energy that came from all of the people that were working around me.
Back To The Grind
Just like that, I felt like my old self. Determined, hungry, and enjoying every second of working closer to my goals.
However, after a while, I got a little tired of constantly driving to new places.
I have always been somewhat of a homebody and I enjoy being alone.
So, I thought to myself, what if I get rid of some junk and create a professional work area at home.
And god damn it, that’s exactly what I did.
Creating My New Command Center
I made some phone calls to family members that had unwanted home office supplies and BOOM!
Just like that I had my own desk and comfortable office chair set up in my home for FREE a week later.
Ever since I set up my own office space, I have been able to work much more efficiently for many hours at a time with no problem at all.
In fact, as I look at the clock right now, it says that I’ve been working on this very article for about 2 hours. In reality, I feel like I just sat down.
You Must Do The Work
Building any type of business takes all of your time and effort if you truly want to be successful.
On average, you must be able to endure long work days consistently for at least the first 2 years before you start seeing things really take off.
If you are currently trying to create something online that will allow you to someday become free in the future, do yourself a favor and set up your own professional work environment.
Get a desk, an office chair, and a nice laptop.
I promise you that it makes all the difference in the world.
