Today I come to you with an article that is a little out of the norm in regards to what I usually publish here on Success & Strength but, I feel like this post is more than necessary.
Lately, I have been interacting with people in person as well as listening to influencers on social media who cover the fitness industry, and all of them seem to have a certain opinion on an appliance that you can find in millions of kitchens around the world.
I’m sure you can already guess what that appliance is by simply re-reading the title of the post you just clicked on, which is of course…the microwave.
Today, everyone seems to think that microwaves are evil contraptions. They think that microwaves heat food with some type of nuclear radiation which is poisoning everyone and slowly killing us all.
The thing that most annoys me about this claim is that people who say such things usually never do any research on what they are talking about which makes them look and sound dumb.
So, I figured that I would try and make the world a better place by educating as many people as possible on this subject.
The best way to understand anything in life is to go back to its beginnings. So with that said, let’s view a brief history lesson on the microwave and find out why and how it was created in the first place.
A Brief History Of The Microwave
Like many pieces of modern technology, the idea of using microwaves (which are just radio frequencies) first came about in World War 2.
A Man Named Percy Spencer was working on microwave radar transmitters for the U.S. military in an effort to make allied radar systems more efficient.
One day in 1945, Spencer noticed something odd while working on one of his microwave transmitter devices… The chocolate bar that was in his pocket was being cooked by the invisible microwaves and began to melt.
This event kicked off a series of other tests that led Mr. Percy to one astonishing conclusion. Focusing microwaves in a specific area was an incredibly fast way of cooking food when compared to a conventional oven.
Not only would this save millions of people tons of time when preparing or reheating food, but it would also be much more cost and energy efficient.
So, there you have it. The microwave was discovered on accident like almost every other invention and has nothing to do with “nuking” your food and getting radiation poisoning.
But, Let’s dig a little deeper into how microwaves actually work.
How Microwaves Cook Our Food
In order to cook your food, microwaves use radio waves at 2,500 megahertz in a concentrated area. When the radio waves hit your food they are absorbed by the water, fats, and sugars that your food contains which are instantly converted into heat.
Since microwaves are not absorbed by glass, plastic or ceramics, the plates and bowls that you heat your food on never get heated directly by the microwave. Thus, making it the perfect way to reheat a meal.
You see, microwaves turn on and off just like a light bulb. As soon as the microwave is turned off, everything that is happening stops instantly. In other words, microwaves or “radiation” do not linger in your food or materials that your food is cooked on.
You aren’t going to get radiation poisoning and grow 3 dicks or turn into the Incredible Hulk.
Still Feeling Skeptical?
If you still think that microwaves are killing everyone (even though most people that say this nonsense still use them every day) take a look at a case study that is right in front of you all the time… Old people!
The old people of today have had microwaves in their households for their whole lives which means they have been exposed to food that has been cooked in them for about 70 years now.
Are they all dying from eating microwaved food?
Are they dying from diabetes and heart disease because they lived their whole life as slaves to the system working 5 days for 2 days of freedom while neglecting exercise or weight training of any kind?
But but but
My nana and grandpa died from cancer.
Yeah, mine too, but it wasn’t from microwaves friend.
It was from eating highly processed
food garbage that is full of chemicals. The same food that you and everyone else shoves down their throats every day.
Simply heating up the garbage food in a microwave doesn’t make it any better or any worse for you. It was already horrible for you in the first place.
Microwaves Aren’t The Devil
As long as you aren’t eating shitty processed foods 24/7, heating normal whole foods in a microwave can be a lifesaver for anyone that is looking to live the bodybuilding lifestyle.
Think about it… How are you going to heat up certain foods like pasta, chicken, and oatmeal in an oven?
Have you ever tried?
It’s Pretty much impossible…
Hopefully, this article has helped educate you on how microwaves actually work. But, more importantly, it has also taught you another very important lesson in life…
Do your own actual research before you form an opinion on something!
Stop taking everyone’s word as gospel and be your own man in all parts of life.
